Track and Field Finishes Strong on the Final Day
Over the past two days the track and field team broke school records and today on the third and final day it was no different. Today was the busiest day for the Rams they put on a good show with two top five finishes.
Brandon Scaffe got the Rams started today in the pole vault. Scaffe received an at-large bid into the NCCAA Championships with the heights he has cleared throughout the outdoor season. Scaffe started out with a height of 3.85 meters and cleared it on his second attempt. After moving the bar up 15 centimeters, Scaffe was unable to clear it on three attempts and finished tied for eighth.
Staying in the field events the Rams had
Britney Brown and
Sam Wammock throwing the shot put. Wammock had a solid showing with a mark of 10.59 meters as Wammock finished in tenth place. Brown looked for a little redemption today after struggling in the discus yesterday. Brown earned the redemption she was looking for as she threw a personal best 12.19 meters narrowly missing being named and All-American. Brown finished in fourth today just three centimeters away from third.
Crystal Jones competed in the preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles yesterday. The finals took place today, but due to an injury Jones was unable to finish the event.
The last event of the year for the Rams was the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Christine Snuffer was the Rams lone competitor. Snuffer was slowed down by a fellow competitor falling down in the water before her, but she ran a solid race and finished with a time of 12:57.
The season comes to a close for the Rams, but this year was the best year ever in the history of the program. If you are interested in joining Rams track and field or cross country team consider coming to camp this summer and learning from the coaches.
