Rams Start Strong at Montreat College Invitational
The Columbia International University Track and Field teams were back in action this weekend after hosting their inaugural home meet last Saturday. The Rams traveled to Montreat College for their invitational.
Track Events
Janna Imes was the first Ram to take part in an event on Friday as she competed in the 10,000 meter run. Imes was the first ever Ram to take part in the race and Imes was coming off a great 5K last weekend. Imes ran a solid race as she crossed the line with a time of 41:29 to finish in third and qualify for NCCAA Nationals.
Michael Knight also took part in the 10,000 meter run the first on the men's side as well. Knight was coming of running the 5K last weekend where he set the school record. Knight competed in a solid field as he crossed the line with a time of 36:50.
Jason Nalley got Saturday started for the Rams in the 5000 meter race walk. Nalley improved upon his time from last week as he finished the race walk with a time of 30:34 and lapped the indoor conference championship winner.
Christine Snuffer was the next Ram on the track as she took part in the 1500 meter run. Snuffer had a good race in a solid field as she crossed the line with a time of 5:36.
Blaise Shields and
Braiden Guest also took part in the 1500. Shields had a time of 4:40, while Guest had a time of 5:21.
Crystal Jones took part in the 100 meter hurdles and finished with a respectable time of 18.34 which placed her second in conference competitors.
Shyann Miller also competed in the hurdles, but ran the 400 meter hurdles for the first time ever and qualified for the conference championships with a time of 1:16.
John Talbert was the lone Ram in the 800 meter run. It was a packed field, but Talbery finished with a time of 2:09. Jones was back on the track for the 200 meter dash as she finished fourth in her heat with a time of 27.81.
Blake Guillozet was the last Ram on the track today competing in the 5K. Guillozet ran one of his best times this year finishing fourth with a time of 16:20.
Field Events
Sam Wammock was competing in the hammer throw for the first time this year. Wammock had a solid second throw. Wammock threw the hammer 29.38 meters to place her ahead of a couple throwers from the conference.
Dizayuh Hinton and Vincent Suarez each took part in the hammer throw. Hinton finished in third last weekend, but today Hinton had an even better throw as he threw the hammer 35.87 meters which was a full five meters further than last week. Suarez improved on his throw from last Saturday as well as he threw the hammer 27.65 meters.
Meghann Miller was the first Ram in a field event today in the triple jump. It was just Miller's second time competing in the triple jump as she jumped 9.86 meters.
Britney Brown and
Sam Wammock took part in the shot put. Each had a great showing as they both finished inside the top eight overall. Brown finished fourth with a distance of 11.73 meters and Wammock finished eighth with a throw of 10.11 meters. Brown was back at it in the women's discus. Brown had an outstanding throw finishing in sixth with a throw of 37.14 meters.
Dizayuh Hinton started a little slow in the shot put, but improved throw by throw and finished with a distance of 11.65 meters. Hinton, Vincent Suarez, and
Seth Despres all took part in the discus. Hinton finished eighth overall with a throw of 37.98 meters. Suarez threw the disc 29.10 meters and Despres threw it 25.41 meters.
Despres and
Tyler Davis got to throw the javelin in a stacked field today. Despres chucked the javelin 35.07 meters and Davis threw it 26.48 meters.
Brandon Scaffe took part in the pole vault today in a good field. Scaffe was able to clear 3.75 meters today which placed him in seventh overall.
Up Next: The Rams will be back on the track next week at Southern Wesleyan University. The meet will take place on Friday and Saturday.
