Women's Track and Field Finishes Seventh in Inaugural Home Meet
For the first time ever the Columbia International University Women's Track and Field team got to run a meet at home. After all the hard work and fundraising to make the state of the art track a reality the Rams got to experience what it was like to run at home.
Track Events
The first track event that the Rams took part in today was the 1500 meter.
Christine Snuffer and
Gloria Book ran the event as Snuffer finished in third with a time 5:20 and Book finished in fifth with a time of 5:38.
Next up was the 100 meter hurdles for the Rams.
Crystal Jones crossed teh line with a time of 16.81 for sixth place and
Shyann Miller finished with a time of 18.06. Jones also took part in the 100 meter dash finishing with a time of 13.49.
Sotiria Tsilionis took part in the 800 meter run against some tough competition. Tsilionis ran a solid race as she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:33. The final track event for the Rams was
Janna Imes running the 5k. Imes ran a solid race as she crossed the line in second place with a time of 19:34.
Field Events
Meghann Miller took part in the long jump for the first time ever and hit the sand with a mark of 4.63 meters. Miller also took part in the triple jump finishing with a mark of 9.71 meters.
Britney Brown took part in the discus and shot put today for the Rams. In the discus Brown would finish first in her heat and second overall with a mark of 35.85 meters. In the shot put, Brown would once again win her heat, but this time Brown finished in first with a mark of 11.82 meters.
Sam Wammock threw in the hammer as well as the shot put. In the hammer, Wammock had a couple good throws, but they fell out of bounds. However, in the shot put Wammock made up for it as she finished fourth with a mark of 9.97 meters.
Coach Brooker on the Meet:
"It was an exciting day to see our women running on the track with a lot of CIU support. The women did really well with national qualifications and personal records. It was an awesome experience to have so many supports and I know the women loved it."
Up Next: The Rams will be back on the track next Saturday as they take part in the Montreat College Invitational.
