Rams Improve at Carolina Challenge
The Columbia International University Track and Field team was back in action in Columbia today as the Rams took part in the Carolina Challenge. The Rams competed in numerous events today and continued to improve as they get ready for the conference meet.

Seth Despres started the meet off for the Rams as he took part in the Men's Heptathlon. In the 60 meter dash Despres finished with a time of 7.66 seconds. Next was the long jump as he jumped 15 feet ten inches. He closed out the day and event before a groin injury in the shot put as he threw it 9.34 meters.

Meghann Miller was the next Ram on the track as she took part in the women's 60 meter dash. Miller finished with a time of 8.60 seconds. Shyann Miller and Crystal Jones then took part in the 60 meter hurdles. Shyann finished with a time of 11.33 seconds, while Crystal finished with a time of 11.60 seconds.

Blaise Shields was the next Ram on the track as he took part in the men's one mile run. Shields had a solid race and crossed the line with a time of 5:02. Shields beat opponents from Newberry, Coker, Wingate, and Claflin. Michael Knight finished out the day for the Rams on the track as he took part in the 3000 meter run. Knight finished with a time of 10:34.

In the field Sam Wammock threw the weight and threw it 9.49 meters which put her ahead of others. Dizayu Hinton was next up for the Rams as he threw the shot put. Hinton's best throw came on his third attempt as he threw it 11.41 meters.

Brandon Scaffe took part in the pole vault today against a tough field. Scaffe came in looking to clear an opening height of 3.95 meters. Scaffe came close to clearing it on all three attempts, but just missed it. Hinton and Vincent Saurez took part in the weight throw, but fouls hurt them in the field. Britney Brown was the last Ram to throw as she took part in the shot put. Brown just missed winning her heat as she threw the shot 11.15 meters

On Saturday the Rams had four student-athletes take part in the 800 meter run. For the women, Sotiria Tsilionis  and Christine Snuffer were on the track. Tsilionis was on the track first in the sixth heat as she ran the 800 in 2:35 beating a girl from Auburn University. Snuffer was in heat seven and ran a time of 2:42 beating girls from Wingate and South Carolina State.

John Talbert and Braiden Guest also took part in the 800 meter run. Talbert just missed his personal best as he finished with a time of 2:16, while Guest finished with a time of 2:34.

The Rams will be back in action on February 14-15 at the AAC Conference Meet.
