Rams Slow Start Hurts Against Cavaliers

After playing a hard game on Tuesday the Columbia International University Women's Basketball team was on the road to take on Montreat College. The Rams played hard and fought their way back into the game in the second half, but a slow start hurt that Rams chances for a victory. The Cavaliers won the game 67-53.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams scored the first points of the game as Queeneka Howard got a steal and found Mary Catherine Outlaw on the fast break
  • The Cavaliers would score the next five points
  • The Rams would get back on the board after Hannah Trawick grabbed the offensive rebound and put it back up to score
  • The Cavaliers closed the first quarter on a 12-0 run
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Cavaliers would start the second quarter on a run again, but this time it was a 7-0 run
  • The Rams first six points would come from Larissa Lee on a free throw, jumper, and three pointer
  • Outlaw would then sink two free throws for the Rams
  • Jordan Sprueill and Keniah Watkins would each score for the Rams, but the Cavaliers took a 34-18 lead at half
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams and Cavaliers traded baskets to start the third quarter
  • The teams continued to battle in the third quarter
  • Jordan Sprueill and Larissa Lee would hit a couple big shots for the Rams
  • At the end of the third quarter the Cavaliers led 53-35
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • Renee Carter would get the scoring started for the Rams in the fourth quarter as she hit one of two free throws
  • Sprueill would hit a free throw as well and then Carter was back at the line to hit three more free throws
  • With five minutes left to play, Lee would hit a three and pull the Rams within 14 points
  • The Rams would pull within 12 off the Cavaliers with a three by Jay Mazyck, but the Cavaliers won 67-53
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams struggled from the floor as they shot just 23.6% (17-of-72) and were only 5-of-17 from beyond the arch, while the Cavaliers shot 49% (25-of-51) from the field and were 7-of-17 from the three point line...The Rams forced the Cavaliers into 29 turnovers a season high...The Rams also had 39 rebounds...Larissa Lee led the way for the Rams with 15 points...Jordan Sprueill had 13 points and six rebounds, while Renee Carter had seven points and six rebounds...Darah Dewalt had 12 points for the Cavaliers
