CIU Breaks Ground on a New Track
With excitement stirring for CIU's first track and field meet of the season happening tomorrow at USC-Beaufort, there was a lot to celebrate today as ground was broken on CIU's new eight lane track.
The track will be situated on Ben Lippen's campus and will be used by both schools. Many hours of hard work have gone into making this track possible and into making this one of the best in the state. The surface will be a multi-color Mondo track, the fastest surface in the world and the only used by the Olympics. In the future the schools look to host meets such as SCISA, and conference championships as not many surfaces can compare to what the schools will share.
"We are really excited about the opportunity to put in a new multi-color Mondo track," said Head Coach
Jud Brooker. Recruiting has really grown with this great announcement so we are really excited with the competitiveness that we will have in our new conference the AAC next year! To be able to draw people to one of the best tracks in the state has really built a lot of excitement within the recruiting class we have coming in. Being able to host state, conference, and national championships will bring some of the best athletes from around South Carolina as well as the nation to CIU's campus."
