Rams Celebrate Senior Night with a Win
Rams Celebrate Senior Night with a Win
Columbia, SC -- The Columbia International University women's basketball team took to the court for one final home game this season. Tonight was also senior night as Berther Ondiek, Angel Simpson, Victoria Dickerson, and Raven Fleming were all honored for their contributions to the program. The Rams welcomed Hiwassee College for tonight's game. Earlier in the year the Rams lost to Hiwassee on their home court so the Rams were looking to even the season series with a win at home. The Rams did just that as they were victorious with a final score of 71-65.

The Basics
  • Score: CIU 71 / Hiwassee 65
  • Records: CIU 7-21 / Hiwassee 16-9
  • Location: Columbia, SC
How it Happened:
  • In the first three minutes the Tigers would take an early 5-2 lead. Just over a minute later after five points from Victoria Dickerson the Rams held a 7-5 advantage. After four points from Raven Fleming to end the half the Rams led the Tigers 11-10.
  • The Tigers would draw even with the Rams at 15 just about two minutes into the second quarter. The Rams would regain the lead and push it as high as eight after two free throws from Zeleria Simpson. After a Tigers turnover, Raven Fleming was able to score on the fastbreak and give the Rams a ten point lead at half, 35-25.
  • Semoine Frasier and Jordan Spruell got in on the action to start the third quarter as they each scored for the Rams. However, after those points the Tigers would go on a 10-2 run to trim the Rams lead to six. For almost three minutes neither team could buy a basket, but finally a free throw from Frasier got the scoring started again. At the end of third quarter the Rams held a 51-37 lead.
  • Over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter the two teams would trade baskets. The fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter and it showed as the Tigers cut the Rams lead to three on two occasions. Down the stretch the Rams would hit their free throws and win by the final score of 71-65.
