Frasier's Three Point Play Propels the Rams to Victory
Greenville, SC -- The Columbia International University women's basketball team took to the road for an afternoon matchup against in-state rival Bob Jones University. The Rams were on a small three game losing streak and looking to snap that, while the Bruins came in losing two in a row. The two teams battled all game, but a huge three point play by
Semoine Frasier with six seconds left gave the Rams a 71-70 victory.
The Basics
- Score: CIU 71 / BJU 70
- Records: CIU 5-20 / BJU 13-17
- Location: Greenville, SC
How it Happened:
- The Rams scored the first point of the game on a Raven Fleming free throw. After the Rams first points the Bruins went on a 13-0 run to take a large lead with three minutes left in a quarter. A layup by Victoria Dickerson put a stop to the run, but at the end of the first quarter the Bruins led 19-7.
- The Rams scored the first four points of the second quarter and over the first two minutes trimmed the Bruins lead to seven. The Bruins would push their lead back to double figures, but at the end of the first half the Rams were down 33-23.
- Just like in the first two quarters the Rams would score the first points and this time it was a layup by Zeleria Simpson. The Rams and Bruins would battle as the Rams would score, but then the Bruins would score so neither team gained any ground. Two jumpers and a layup in by Zeleria Simpson over a minute span pulled the Rams within one, 43-42. The Rams and Bruins would go back and forth, but the Bruins led 49-45 after three quarters.
- For the first time all game the Bruins scored the first points of the quarter. The Rams cut the lead back to one after a layup from Raven Fleming with 7:35 left in the game. However, the Bruins would hold onto their lead and push it to nine points with just about four minutes left to play. The Rams would battle back as they went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 62. Throughout the run the Rams got points from Fleming, Dickerson, and Simpson. The Bruins would take the lead once again, but the Rams tied it at 66 after a three from Dickerson. The Bruins would take a small two point lead, 70-68, with just ten second remaining. Semoine Frasier decided to take over and converted on her layup attempt and was fouled. As Frasier stepped to the line it was a moment that most people dream. Frasier calmed her nerves and sank the free throw to give the Rams the 71-70 victory.
