Bruins Claw Past the Rams
The Columbia International University Rams took on rival Bob Jones University tonight. The game was a battle all throughout as the team traded baskets, but 17 three pointers by the Bruins pushed them to victory. The Bruins would win by the final score of 70-60. The Rams fall to 3-14 on the season, while the Bruins move to 8-12.
The Rams would get on the board first as
Sam Wammock was able to grab the offensive rebound and put it back for the games first points. The Bruins would hit a three on their next possession and take the lead. Over the next four minutes the Bruins would take a 15 -6 lead over the Rams. At the three minute mark the Bruins built a 12 point lead, but over those last three minutes the Rams would go on a 7-0 run with points from
Raven Fleming and
Victoria Dickerson.
The Rams used the momentum they built at the end of the first quarter to jump on top of the Bruins at the start of the second quarter. The Rams would start the second quarter on an 11-0 run and run out to a 24-18 lead.
Jordan Spruell was dominate over the run as she had nine of the eleven points and
Semoine Frasier had the other two. After the run the Bruins would fight back as they tied the game at 26 and then took the lead on their next possession. After the Bruins took the lead, Dickerson would score the final four points of the half and the Rams went into half up, 30-27.
The Bruins started the third quarter off by hitting two straight threes and regaining the lead. The Rams would fight back once again and take the lead after a three from Heather Blackburn. The teams would go back and forth with the lead, but at the 1:02 mark the Rams would trim the lead to one after a jumper from Frasier. At the end of three quarter the Bruins held a 49-45 advantage.
The Bruins played solid defense in the final quarter as the Rams looked to take the lead back. However, the Rams would not ever get any closer than four points. The Bruins would go on and win by the final score of 70-60.
Columbia International shot 35.8% (24-of-67) from the field and were only 3-of-18 from beyond the arc...Bob Jones shot 34.8% (23-of-66) from the floor and were lights out from three, 17-of-30...The Rams had the advantage in rebounds as they had 50 compared to the Bruins 42...The Rams also had 15 offensive boards...
Jordan Spruell had another double-double with 14 points and a game high 17 rebounds...
Raven Fleming had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds...
Victoria Dickerson was the teams leading scorer with 17 points and had six assists...
Semoine Frasier had nine points and six rebounds...Sarah Thomsen had a game high 28 points as she hit nine threes.
Columbia International will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Tennessee to take on Hiwassee College at 5:30 p.m.
