Rams Run Past Screaming Eagles
The Columbia International University women's basketball team finally got the second half of their season started tonight as they took on Toccoa Falls College. The Rams came into the game hoping to start the New Year off with a win, while the Screaming Eagles were looking for their first win of the season. The Rams came out strong and they played that way throughout the rest of the game as they went on to win 64-49.
The Rams opened the game on a 13-0 run and took control early.
Raven Fleming,
Jordan Spruell, and
Victoria Dickerson led the Rams as they had all thirteen of the points. The Screaming Eagles would get on the board with two free throws. The two teams would trade baskets over the final four minutes, but the Rams would take a 18-4 lead into the second quarter.
Victoria Dickerson continued her scoring spree as she had the Rams first four points of the quarter. Dickerson was back at it again, with 3:23 left in the quarter her layup pushed the Rams lead to 19. The Screaming Eagles would hit a couple threes and trim the Rams lead to 15, but the Rams would run it back up to 17 as the second quarter came to an end the Rams were up 32-15.
The Rams came out of the half ready to go and put the game away as they limited the Screaming Eagles to two points over the first six minutes and the Rams would run their lead to 22. The teams would trade baskets, but at the end of the third quarter the Rams lead was still at 22 after a layup from Dickerson.
The Screaming Eagles would score the first three points of the quarter on the Rams. The Screaming Eagles shots would start falling as they were able to cut the Rams lead to 14 on multiple occasions. The Rams would let the Screaming Eagles cut it to 13, but that is all the closer they got as the Rams would win 64-49.
Columbia International shot 40.3% (27-of-67) for the game and were 8-of-12 from the charity stripe...Toccoa Falls shot 23.3% (17-of-73) from the field, while they were 7-of-11 from the free throw line...Columbia International pulled down a season high 64 rebounds with 14 coming on the offensive end...The Rams were led by the big three of Dickerson, Fleming, and Spruell...Dickerson led the Rams with 22 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds...Fleming scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds...Spruell was close to a triple-double as she had 16 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists...Malaka Elix led the Screaming Eagles with 20 points.
Columbia International will be back in action on Saturday when they host Bluefield State College at 2 pm.
