Rams Struggle Against NCAA Division I Buccaneers
For the second day in a row the Columbia International University women's basketball team took on a competitive NCAA school. Tonight the Rams took on the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern University. The Rams stuck with Buccaneers in the first half, but cold shooting once again in the second half doomed the Rams as they fell 91-39.
Each team struggled to get things going from the start, but once the scoring started it was the Buccaneers who would get on the board first. The Rams would get on the board at the 6:11 mark as
Raven Fleming found
Jordan Spruell for the layup. The Rams would try to keep up with the Buccaneers, but the Buccaneers would take a 18-8 lead into the second quarter.
The Rams would get on the board first in the second quarter as
Zeleria Simpson would convert a layup on a fastbreak. The two teams would go back and forth. One team would score and then the other would score so neither gained any advantage. Zeleria Simpson had eight of the Rams ten points in the second quarter. However, the Buccaneers took a 29-18 lead at half.
The Buccaneers would score the first four points of the third quarter before
Raven Fleming scored the Rams first points. Fleming would score the Rams next six points as well, but the Buccaneers would close the quarter on a 16-0 run.
Just like the second quarter the Rams would get on the board first with a bucket from Simpson. The Rams would continue to battle, but the Buccaneers proved to be to strong as they would go on to win by the final score.
The Rams were able to pull down 39 rebounds tonight with 18 coming off the offensive glass...The Rams struggled from the floor in the second half as they shot 25% for the game, while the Buccaneers 54.9%...The Rams had three players reach double figure scoring...
Raven Fleming led the Rams with 14 points and had eight rebounds, Zerleria Simpson had 13 points...
Jordan Spruell posted a double-double as she had 12 points and 10 rebounds...Rachel Burns led the Buccaneers with 28 points.
Columbia International will have a short rest before they are back in action tomorrow morning at 11:45 am against Campbell University.
