Yellow Jackets Sting Rams in Columbia Battle
The Columbia International University women's basketball team continued their stretch of away games to open their season. Although, today the Rams didn't have to travel far as they traveled downtown to take on Allen University. This was the first meeting between the two teams this year, with the second game coming in 2018. The first game of the series would go to the Yellow Jackets as they beat the Rams 84-61.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle throughout those ten minutes as the Rams would put some pressure on the Yellow Jackets early, but at the end of the first quarter the Rams were down, 22-15. The second quarter didn't go the way of the Rams as they struggled from the field and the Yellow Jackets continued to hit their shots to take a 43-27 lead into the half.
The Rams came out of the half looking to pick it up and get back in the game. They would win the point battle of the third quarter, but couldn't keep the Yellow Jackets from scoring either so going into the fourth quarter the Yellow Jackets were up by fourteen. The Rams would continue to shoot better in the fourth quarter, but the Yellow Jackets would as well and they would continue to hold onto the lead to win by the final score.
Columbia International shot 48.8% (20-41) for the game, while Allen shot 45.8% (33-72)...The Rams pulled down 29 rebounds...The Rams also had four players record double figure points...
